Floating PV & vertical-axis wind turbines
Nearshore power generation on the sea surface: floating solar modules that must stay stable and moored under waves, and VAWTs for low wind speeds along tropical coasts.
Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and researcher at the Tropical Renewable Energy Center, Universitas Indonesia; Head of the MARDEV Laboratory. I study how floating structures respond to waves, from ship hulls to offshore energy systems. Ph.D. from Osaka University, with postdoctoral appointments at NMRI and Kobe University.
Four research areas, ordered by where each phenomenon happens in the water column: the sea surface, the wave zone, the ship's draught, and moored structures in deeper water.
Nearshore power generation on the sea surface: floating solar modules that must stay stable and moored under waves, and VAWTs for low wind speeds along tropical coasts.
Multi-cylinder floating point absorbers with hydraulic PTO for Java's southern coast, with Pelabuhanratu as a case study. Water-particle motion decays rapidly with depth, so wave energy is captured at the surface.
Wave loads and vertical bending moment from pressure measured on the hull (my doctoral topic at Osaka University), ship motion in actual seas for route optimisation, ferry seakeeping in damaged condition, and resistance reduction.
Dynamic response of floating offshore substations under mooring line failure, wave loads on multi-body platforms, and Pt/Ru-catalysed electrolysers producing green hydrogen from ocean energy and seawater.
A laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, built on three pillars: ships, ocean renewable energy, and floating offshore structures. Full-scale hydrodynamic test facilities are being prepared for research, education, and testing services.
Currently supervising 12 students across 5 research topics: wave and current energy, multi-use offshore platforms, hydrogen, wind energy, and wave makers. Also an examiner for postgraduate defences.
Supervision topics & how to join →Industry expert at P2M, Department of Mechanical Engineering UI, since 2016, delivering feasibility studies, technical assessments, and in-house training in turbomachinery, pumps, hydraulic systems, maintenance management, and reliability engineering.
Open to research collaboration, co-supervision, and researcher exchange.
