Kurniawan Teguh Waskito, Ph.D.

Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and researcher at the Tropical Renewable Energy Center, Universitas Indonesia; Head of the MARDEV Laboratory. I study how floating structures respond to waves, from ship hulls to offshore energy systems. Ph.D. from Osaka University, with postdoctoral appointments at NMRI and Kobe University.

01 · Research areas

From the sea surface to offshore waters

Four research areas, ordered by where each phenomenon happens in the water column: the sea surface, the wave zone, the ship's draught, and moored structures in deeper water.

Floating PV & vertical-axis wind turbines

Nearshore power generation on the sea surface: floating solar modules that must stay stable and moored under waves, and VAWTs for low wind speeds along tropical coasts.

Wave energy converters

Multi-cylinder floating point absorbers with hydraulic PTO for Java's southern coast, with Pelabuhanratu as a case study. Water-particle motion decays rapidly with depth, so wave energy is captured at the surface.

Ship hydrodynamics & seakeeping

Wave loads and vertical bending moment from pressure measured on the hull (my doctoral topic at Osaka University), ship motion in actual seas for route optimisation, ferry seakeeping in damaged condition, and resistance reduction.

Floating structures & green hydrogen

Dynamic response of floating offshore substations under mooring line failure, wave loads on multi-body platforms, and Pt/Ru-catalysed electrolysers producing green hydrogen from ocean energy and seawater.
